Division of Reclamation,
Water Division 1, Water District 23, Park County Mining & safety
Approval Period: November 1, 2013 through October 1, 2014 (October 31, 2014 if
extended)
Contact Phone Number for Mr. Lewicki: 303 - 346 -5196
Dear Mr. Lewicki:
We have reviewed your submittals of October 8 and 28, 2013 requesting renewal of the above
referenced substitute water supply plan ( "SWSP ") in accordance with § 37 -90- 137(11), C.R.S. for an
existing sand and gravel operation, known as the Gloria Z Pit. The current operator is Golden Cross
Aggregates, Inc. ( "Applicant "). The required fee of $257 for the renewal of this SWSP has been submitted
(receipt no. 3662115).
SWSP Operations
This plan seeks to replace depletions resulting from mining operations at the Gloria Z Pit (permit
no. 77305 -F, WDID 2307037). The Gloria Z Pit is a combined gold placer and sand and gravel
operation located approximately 1'/2 miles northwest of Fairplay, Colorado in portions of Sections 29 and
32, Township 9 South, Range 77 West of the 6th P.M.
The site will be wet mined such that the processed gravel will be removed from below the
ground water table. Once removed, the gravel will be sorted by a grizzly screen and all material larger
than 4 inches will be placed in a temporary stockpile and all material smaller than 4 inches in size will
continue into a hopper which feeds a trommel. The trommel is a steel cylinder 4 feet in diameter and 16
feet in length that has round holes % inch in diameter. In the trommel water is used to wash and break
up the material. All material finer than % inch falls through the holes and ends up in a sluice box and all
material greater than'/ inch is sent to a separate temporary stockpile. At the bottom of the metal sluice
is a carpet that collects the denser gold as it passes across the sluice. The material that washes over
the sluice will collect in the Plant Settling Pond. As the material builds up in the various locations it will
be loaded into trucks and used to backfill the mine pit.
Placer depletions at the site consist of evaporation from the two processing ponds, water used
for material processing, and water used for dust suppression. Non - placer depletions at the site will
consist of ground water evaporation from the pit, water retained in the mined material, and water used
for gravel processing (crushing & screening dust suppression). The Applicant has a right to 2.0 cfs of
the Platte City Ditch (WDID 2300764) for placer mining purposes, but according to the SWSP request
these water rights will not be used for 2014. Therefore, all depletions at the site for this plan period will
be ground water depletions.
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303 -866 -3581 • Fax: 303 - 866 -3589
www.water.state.co.us
