2013 Annual Reclamation Report
Southfield Mine
concerns will be addressed prior to approval of the Final Phase 3 Bond Release Request.
T .nn(innt .Cite
The DRMS reported that there was a water gate missing from the pond discharge horizontal
culvert at Pond L1 at the Loadout site. During late December 2012, EFCI installed and sealed a
steel plate in the culvert discharge and cleaned sediment from within the horizontal culvert and at
the discharge end of the culvert.
Windblown tumble weeds were removed from the vertical standpipe discharge of the pond during
the fall of 2013. Also four automobile tires that had been illegally dumped at the east Loadout
were removed as well as bottles and cans. Bottles, cans and trash were removed from the west
Loadout during 2013.
Former Truck Tunnel
During 2012, the DRMS had reported some rilling and slight erosion occurring adjacent to the
northeast end of the former truck tunnel. EFCI installed a length of siltfence on the referenced
embankment, added rip -rap rock at the north end of the retainer wall and interseeded the slope
with the approved seed mix.
During 2013, straw wattles were installed on the referenced slope and additional interseeding was
broadcast on the slope.
Conclusion
As reported in previous years, numbers of Elk varying from 12 to 60 head continue to frequent
and graze the entire mine area and utilize the sediment ponds when water is available. Bear scat
and tracks are found frequently during late summer and fall seasons at the site. During 2013,
although the earlier, cool season grasses seemed inactive due to the dryness at the time, the heavy
rain fall that was received in the area during the August monsoon season revitalized the warm
season grasses and other vegetation throughout the respective sites.
0
