February 2014 Page 1 -9 <br />1. 2.5 New Elk Mine Water Levels <br />NEW -1: This sample station, the West Portal shaft of the New Elk Mine, was established <br />to monitor the recovery (flooding) and quality of water of the sealed New Elk Mine. <br />Reclamation work has resulted in the loss of this station. <br />NEW -2: This sample station, the East Portal shaft of the New Elk Mine, was established <br />to monitor the water levels and water quality in the New Elk Mine. Data collected at this station <br />are presented in Table B -7. <br />NEW -3: A dip sample from the Apache Canyon shaft, used to assess the rate of flooding <br />and the quality of water in the New Elk Mine workings following sealing (see Table B -8). <br />NEW -4: This sample station, a well, located down dip a sufficient distance from the <br />portals to reach a known flooded portion of the New Elk Mine (near the conveyor belt), was <br />established to monitor the water levels and water quality. Data collected at this station (annual <br />minimum, maximum, mean) for 1995 through 2012 are presented in Table B -9. <br />1.2.6 Refuse Disposal Area Piezometers <br />TH -201: Station TH -201, a piezometer, installed on the lowest bench of the Refuse <br />Disposal Area fill (Bench 1) to determine the level of piezometric surface within the <br />embankment. <br />TH -202: Station TH -202, a piezometer, installed in the Refuse Disposal Area (Bench 2) <br />to determine the level of the piezometric surface within the embankment. <br />TH -203: Station TH -203, a piezometer, installed in the Refuse Disposal Area (Bench 3) <br />to determine the level of the piezometric surface within the embankment. <br />This information is to be used in analyses of embankment stability of the Refuse Disposal <br />Area landfill. Measurements (annual minimum, maximum, mean) for 1994 through 2011 are <br />presented in Table B -10. <br />1.2.7 Bedrock Wells <br />NE -1 -10 is located on the south side of Purgatoire River. The well is completed from <br />403.5' to 441.8' in the Allen coal seam and is designed to monitor water level and water quality. <br />NE -6 -10a is located in Santisteven Canyon. The well is completed from 712.6' to 749.7' <br />in the Apache coal seam and is designed to monitor water level and water quality. <br />NE -6 -10b is located in Santisteven Canyon. The well is competed from 419.5' to 448.3' <br />in the Blue coal seam and is designed to monitor water level and water quality. <br />
