The Hawk's Nest Mine is a revoked site and reclamation was completed by the
Division. The Division completed year -ten vegetation monitoring in the summer of 2013 and is in the process of
writing its Findings of COmpliance for final termination of jurisdiction of the site. The weather was cold and clear
and the ground was partially covered with snow.
BACKFILL and GRADING — Rule 4.14 Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour
4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials
4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
- The reclaimed slopes at the East and West Mines and at the Bleeder Entries were all stable at the time of the
inspection. There were no signs of cracking, slumping or settling at any of these locations. There were no
erosional problems at any of the reclaimed sites.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,
4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water
Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;
Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
- The permanent post- mining drainage channels that were constructed at the East and West Mines were both stable
at the time of the inspection. Both channels were riprapped channels. Both had a substantial amount of vegetation
growing in them, which helps to stabilize the channel and riprap and also helps to slow the peak flow of the runoff.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: N/A
This concludes the 23 January 2014 complete inspection report for the Hawk's Nest Mine.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: I
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 2 of 6
