high -TDS water from the Seneca II spoils aquifer, and averages nearly <br />4000 mg /1 ". This year, the average TDS at Pond 002 (NPDES2) was 4094 <br />mg /l (4058 in 2012), and its TDS trend is increasing (see above). At <br />Site YSG5 this year, the average TDS was 2980 mg /l (3197 in 2012). <br />Springs. <br />Spoil spring data may be found after the surface water data presented in <br />Appendix D. Spoil spring data provided are water quality data for the <br />past three years, a hydrograph of historic flow measurements and a <br />LOWESS plot of TDS values. <br />- Spoil Springs 1 and 2. Both these spoil springs are located above <br />the NPDES 004 Pond. Spoil Spring 1 is a large spring that was further <br />developed and fitted with a V -notch weir by the USGS on September 8, <br />1987. Its TDS plot indicates a stable trend, with the peak TDS value <br />occurring in 2005. Spoil Spring 2 is a small spring creek on reclaimed <br />land that flows adjacent to Spoil Spring 1. Spoil Spring 2 exhibits a <br />decreasing TDS trend. <br />- Spoil Springs 3, 4, 5, and 7. These springs all exist in the Wadge <br />coal seam mining area in the Little Grassy Creek basin. Spoil Spring 3 <br />drains out of an old backfilled mine pit, and exhibits a decreasing TDS <br />trend. Spoil Spring 4 is a spring creek adjacent to Spoil Spring 3 and <br />exhibits a decreasing TDS trend. Spoil Spring 5 (also known as the <br />Pecoco Pond) is issued out of another old mine pit north of Spoil Spring <br />3. It displays a decreasing TDS trend. All these springs eventually flow <br />into the Wadge Impoundment via Little Grassy Creek. <br />Spoil Spring 7 existed at the upper end of the Wadge Impoundment until <br />the summer of 2002, when regrading of the pond shoreline buried this <br />spring. A spring reappeared in this area in 2003, and monitoring was <br />resumed. This site no longer exists due to the construction of the Lower <br />Sump in the fall of 2011. Its TDS plot of previous data displayed a <br />decreasing TDS trend (SF = 0.5). <br />15 <br />
