Fall 2013 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mining Areas (E -Seam)
Longwall mining beneath this area occurred several weeks prior to our fall 2013 site visit. This
area is above E -seam Longwall Panel E4 near the tailgate entries. Overburden at this location is
about 790 feet.
3.7.2 Location 3
Several sub - parallel subsidence cracks were noted on the cut -slope above the access road as it
enters the MDW E4 -11 pad (Map 1). Material along this cut -slope appeared to be relatively loose
as if it had been graded as opposed to being representative of exposed subsurface materials. As a
result, the observed cracks (Figure 12) may actually be a function of downslope movement of loose
materials rather than a direct subsidence feature. In either case, recent mining in the area was a
factor in the development of the observed features. Like other features noted along the traverse
on the north side of Dry Fork, this area is above Longwall Panel E4 near the tailgate entries with
an E -seam overburden depth of about 790 feet.
831 - 032.795 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
