Gmail - Water well # 119459
Gm
Water well #119459
2 messages
George Patterson < efcoal @gmail.com>
W D Corley, Jr. < ajjc @att.net> Fri, Dec 7, 2012 at 6 :43 AM
To: JanetBinns - DNR <janet.binns @state.co.us >, Energy Fuels <efcoal @gwestoffice.net>
Janet,
Here are some dates relating to the changing function of our water well that I can verify.
In 1991 we started experiencing decreased flow from our well. We were aware that Southfield
workings had undermined our well. There is no face date for this undermined panel on the
Southfield Mine map, but the next panel west has a face date of Oct. 17, 1992. We had a
conversation with Energy and were told that the mine could not have been the cause of the
decreased well flow. However, Energy had been pumping for several years an unknown amount
of water from the well that has become the NWMW. Further checking showed that Energy did
not have a permit for their well, and they applied for a State permit on April 10, 1991. Their
original permit receipt #324371 requested a pumping rate of 140 gpm, which permit was denied.
Subsequently Energy was given a permit #12508 -AD for their well on July 22, 1991. After these
events our well continued to have a decreased flow and we had to discontinue pumping. I have
not found a definite date when we shut down this well.
There are other known facts relating to the NWMW. It was pumping sufficient water in 1991 to
request the permit for a rate of 140 gpm. Yet only a few years later the apparent hydrologic
changes due to the-mining had altered their well to the point that there was no flow and the pump
was removed in about 1996 with the well being converted to a monitoring well. Now Energy
claims that this well at the mine void depth is dry. Huge hydrologic alterations certainly have
occurred.
WD Corley, Jr.
