Baseline Hydrologic Monitoring Plan — Hansen Project 43
Passive sampling using Hydrasleeves has proven to be a reliable sampling method for both shallow and
deep wells at the Hansen Project. The methods for deploying Hydrasleeves and collecting the samples are
provided in Appendix F. A significant advanatage of using Hydrasleeves is that no purge water is
generated. As currently employed on the project, the sample volume is limited to three liters, which is
typically (but not always) adequate for laboratory analysis of all constituents in the comprehensive
analytical suite.
Parameters to be measured in the field and recorded on the field sampling record will include water level,
temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, and dissolved oxygen. An example groundwater field sampling
datasheet is provided in Appendix F.
Only certified clean bottles obtained from the analytical laboratory will be used for samples. Samples for
dissolved constituents will be field filtered (0.45 µm) and preserved immediately or will be
unfiltered /unpreserved in the field and sent to the laboratory for filtration. If a sample for dissolved
constituents is not filtered in the field, an acid preservative shall not be added in the field. All sample
containers will be clearly labeled with the well identification, date and time of sample collection,
parameters to be analyzed, filtered or unfiltered, preservatives, and the samplers' initials. Samples will be
kept cool from the time of collection to receipt by the analytical laboratory. Chain of custody forms and
custody seals provided by the laboratory will be used for all samples shipped to the laboratory. Samples
will be stored on ice for shipment to ACZ Laboratories, a NELAC - certified analytical lab, via express
carrier.
Sample containers, preservatives, laboratory holding times, analytical methods, and method detection limits
for groundwater samples are summarized in Appendix G.
Groundwater samples will also be collected for QA /QC purposes, as outline in the QAPP (Appendix G).
For each sampling round (winter, spring, summer, and fall) involving conventional purge or low -flow
(micropurge) techniques, one blind duplicate groundwater sample will be collected. Duplicate samples
may be omitted from passive groundwater sampling (Figure 15) due to the limited sample volumes.
Duplicate QC evaluation procedures are described in the QAPP.
4153A.140129 Whetstone Associates
