Baseline Hydrologic Monitoring Plan — Hansen Project 28
Colorado National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements for hard rock and metal
mines. The regulatory basis for surface water quality is described in Section 4.6.
3.4.1 Field Parameters
Both field and laboratory parameters are evaluated. Field parameters include temperature, pH, electrical
conductivity, dissolved oxygen, oxidation/reduction potential (ORP, or Eh), and stream flow, as shown in
Table 9.
Table 9. Laboratory
quote IDs are given in parentheses.
• The initial comprehensive analytical suite ( "Taylor- Ranch -SW ") contains 74 parameters listed in
Table 10.
• The revised analytical suite developed in 2010 ( "T- Ranch -SW- Short") includes 43 laboratory
parameters listed in Table 10 and includes progressive rad screening described below.
• The expanded analytical suite developed in 2011 ( "Taylor -SW- NPDES -Bkg ") includes NPDES
parameters required under CDPHE rules for discharge permits from hardrock and metal mines.
This analytical suite includes all the analytes in the 2010 revised analytical suite (T- Ranch -SW-
Short) plus oil and grease, total phenols, total cobalt, dissolved cobalt, and WAD cyanide.
Bacteriological samples have also been collected from one sampling event. However, due to the
remoteness of the site and extremely short hold timesz, bacteriological samples are not routinely
analyzed.
Currently, samples from nine of the twelve surface stations are analyzed using the 2010 revised analytical
suite (T- Ranch -SW -Short) and three stations (SW10 -FC, SW11 -MT, and SW12 -HG) are analyzed using
the 2011 background NPDES analytical suite (Taylor -SW- NPDES -Bkg).
2 Samples for bacteriological analysis must be collected, couriered to the laboratory, and analyzed all within 24 hours.
4153A.140129 Whetstone Associates
