Baseline Hydrologic Monitoring Plan — Hansen Project 25
3.1.2 Middle Tallahassee Creek and its Tributaries
Three sampling sites have been established for Middle Tallahassee Creek. The first station (SW11 -MT) is
located about one half mile upstream from the entrance of Middle Tallahassee Creek to the Project area.
The second station (SW22 -MT) is located at the point that the stream exits the Project area. The third
station (SW 14 -MT) is located outside of the Project boundary above the confluence with North Tallahassee
Creek. From 2008 to 2010, SW14 -MT typically had flow rates greater than 0.1 cfs, but in 2011 to 2013 the
station has typically been dry.
Two tributaries to Middle Tallahassee Creek include Fear Creek and Hall Gulch. The sampling site for
Hall Gulch, SW12 -HG is located upstream of the Hansen Project and about one mile upstream from the
confluence with Middle Tallahassee Creek. These tributaries have also typically been dry in 2011 to 2013.
3.1.3 Cottonwood Creek and its Tributaries
Four surface water stations have been established on Cottonwood Creek and its tributaries (Salt Creek and
Squaw Creek) on the northern and western portion of the Project area.
There are two sampling sites for Cottonwood Creek. The first station (SW07 -CO) is located at the stream's
entry to the CUP boundary. The second station (SW08 -CO) is located at the streams exit from the CUP
area.
The sampling site for Salt Creek is located 3/4 of a mile upstream from the confluence with Squaw Creek.
The stream gradient of Salt Creek is about 80 ft/mi. The headwaters of Salt Creek are at Taylor Soda
Springs, a calcareous spring with high concentrations of dissolved salts that originates in the Echo Park
Formation.
The sampling site for Squaw Creek is located about 1.5 miles upstream from the confluence with Salt
Creek.
3.1.4 Additional Surface Water Stations
Any new stations that are added to the monitoring program will be field verified. For accurate flow
measurement, locations will be selected that have a uniform reach with steady flow and no bends, curves, or
backwater effects. Where samples are to be collected downstream of a confluence, the sample location will be
selected at least 100 feet downstream of the confluence or as appropriate to allow proper mixing of stream
waters.
4153A.140129 Whetstone Associates •
