The baseline hydrology is determined, in part, from sampling
stations established by Cyprus Mines in 1979 and by Black Range Minerals in 2008. The specific
monitoring stations that are mentioned in this section are described in detail in Section 3.1 of this
monitoring plan. Stream flow measurements from 2008 to 2013 are provided in Appendix I, while
historical monthly stream flow rates are shown in Table 4.
2.2.2.1 Cottonwood Creek
Cottonwood Creek is a small perennial stream that flows through a broad valley north of the Project area
into a steep narrow canyon to the east of the Project area. The stream is fed by a system of perennial and
intermittent streams to the north of the Project area. Stream flow measurements from 2008 to 2013 are
provided in Appendix I. The maximum flow rate for Cottonwood Creek was 1.12 cfs measured at site
SW07 -CO in June, 2010. SW07 -CO is consistently dry when monitored in recent years, flowing only
during the first three quarters of 2010. The average stream gradient of Cottonwood Creek through the
Project area is 20 ft/mi.
2.2.2.2 Squaw Creek
Squaw Creek is a very small perennial stream that flows down steep drainages into the broad fluvial plain
of Cottonwood Creek. The stream is fed by a system of springs on the east side of Waugh Mountain.
Stream flow measurements from 2008 to 2013 are provided in Appendix I. The maximum flow rate for
Squaw Creek was 0.25 cfs measured in November, 2009. Flow rates for Squaw Creek are mostly below
0.1 cfs.
4153A.140129 Whetstone Associates •
