simplicity. The Deserado Mine coal seams are located near the bottom of the Coal and <br />Siltstone Facies (middle zone). Water levels were measured in the groundwater monitoring <br />piezometers according to the schedule in Appendix A. The water level is measured <br />quarterly in Qal -5, and samples collected annually to analyze for the water quality <br />parameters listed in Table 2 -1. <br />As a part of the mid -term review technical revision (TR48), DRMS approved discontinuing <br />the monitoring of the following wells: <br />TW2 -7U, TW2 -7L <br />2 -7U, 2 -7M, 2 -7L <br />354U, 35-4L <br />RM -1 <br />35-4M <br />36 -2U, 36 -2L <br />Minor Revision 149 (2012) approved the plugging of the lower and middle zone monitoring <br />wells following the last required sampling to address safety issues with having an open <br />conduit between the mined out areas and the surface. 32 -7M and 32 -7L have been <br />permanently plugged to address this issue. 29 -4M was plugged in November 2012 <br />following its final required sampling. <br />BME also requested that the monitoring frequencies be reduced to annual for all bedrock <br />wells and quarterly for alluvial well Qal -5 and the water sampling requirement changed to <br />annual for Qal -5. DRMS approved BME's application on November 10, 1998. These <br />changes took effect for the 1998 -1999 water year. <br />During October 1984, the Taylor Draw Reservoir facilities were completed and the reservoir <br />began filling with water. The area around the alluvial groundwater holes became a shallow <br />water mud flat area with the deposition of mud, silt and sand at high reservoir levels. As a <br />result, alluvial groundwater monitoring holes Qal -1, Qal -2, Qal -3, Qal -4 and Qal-6 have <br />been destroyed and are no longer available for monitoring. Alluvial well Qal -5 is still being <br />monitored. <br />During May 1987, longwall panel 1 was mined past the location of 2 -12U. The location was <br />subsided and the monitoring hole could no longer provide usable data. Accordingly, <br />Western Fuels, Utah (now BME) applied for a Technical Revision on 6/7/88 to eliminate <br />groundwater monitoring at 2 -12U. The Technical Revision was subsequently approved. <br />Per the DRMS permit requirements, water from the groundwater monitoring holes 294M, <br />30 -8M, 31 -7M, 32 -7M, and 33 -8M in Leases C -8424 and C -8425 were sampled and <br />3 <br />
