Run -off Collection Ditch Designs
All ditches are designed for the maximum drainage area for the same storm event described for the
sediment detention basins. All ditches will have 0.3 feet of freeboard. Some ditches will be created
primarily at the edge of roads in very rocky areas, so no ditch lining is needed in these cases. The ditch
leading to Sump 1 will need to be lined as described below since the road has deposited fines from past
operations that can become suspended in runoff during snowmelt and runoff events. The ditches will be
monitored for any maintenance needed.
Collection Ditch for Basin IA
Channel Type: Triangular, Equal Side Slopes
Dimensions: Left Side Slope 1.00:1
Right Side Slope 1.00:1
Wetted Perimeter: 0.64
Area of Wetted Cross Section: 0.05
Channel Slope: 21.14
Manning's n of Channel: 0.0400
Discharge: 0.1647 cfs
Depth of Flow: 0.2275 feet
Velocity: 3.1727 fps
Channel Lining: 3" to 6" Rock over a thickness of 8 inches.
Freeboard: 0.30 feet
Collection Ditch for Basin 1B
Channel Type: Triangular, Equal Side Slopes
Dimensions: Left Side Slope 1.00:1
Right Side Slope 1.00:1
Wetted Perimeter: 14.14
Area of Wetted Cross Section: 25
Channel Slope: 23
Manning's n of Channel: 0.0400
Discharge: 0.1718 cfs
Depth of Flow: 0.2275 feet
Velocity: 3.3198 fps
Channel Lining: 3" to 6" Rock over a thickness of 8 inches.
Freeboard: 0.30 feet
Yule Quarry January 2014 34
