EXHIBIT B - SITE DESCRIPTION
1. Location and General Land Use Information
The Yule Quarry is located south of Marble, CO a distance of 2.6 miles.
The affected land (-5.50 acres) to be encompassed in this amendment is located in the following:
• Two patented federal mining claims, one lode and one placer
• 0.919 acres in the Historic Mill Site leased from the Town of Marble
The location of the lands to be added at the quarry site is shown on Maps C -2 and C -3.
Prior to disturbance, the area consisted of high mountain forest on steep slopes at an elevation of 9300
feet. Most of the current estimated disturbed area of 4.04 acres at the mine was historically disturbed
well before the initiation of reclamation laws in 1977.
2. Site Geolozv
The marble at Yule Quarry is an exceptionally high quality ( >99% calcite) metamorphic deposit of the
Leadville Limestone of the Mississippi Age. The calcium carbonate was formed as a result of bone
accumulation of animals swimming in a specific area of the inland sea that was present in Central
Colorado. Later altered by contact metamorphism during the Tertiary period, the white marble occurs as
a massive bed ( >200 feet thick) that outcrops along the Yule Creek. The marble formation is located
below the Pennsylvanian Molas Formation and above the Dyer Dolomite Member.1
Colorado Yule Marble —Building Stone of the Lincoln Memorial U.S. Geological. Survey Bulletin #2162, c.1998
Yule Quarry January 2014 10
