On January 9, 2014, during preparation of the Annual
Hydrology Report for the Seneca II -W CDRMS mining permit, we discovered that the total recoverable
iron (TR Fe) values reported on the DMRs for Outfall 017 were incorrect. The values reported were 285
ug/l (30DA AVG) and 450 ug/l (DAILY MAX). The correct values should be 835 ug/l (30DA AVG) and
1500 ug/1(DAILY MAX). Because the DMR limits for the 30DAY AVG is 1000 ug/l, and "Req. Mon"
for the DAILY MAX, the corrected values do not result in an excursion for the TR Fe limits at Outfall
017.
The corrected 30DA AVG differs from the corrected DAILY MAX because there were two TR Fe
samples collected in April 2013 at Outfall 017. The first TR Fe on April 18th was 170 ug/l, and the second
TR Fe on April 30th was 1500 ug/l. The April 30th sample was collected as part of a selenium study that
Seneca conducted during 2013 that included TR Fe as one of several water quality parameters analyzed in
samples collected during the spring snowmelt.
The enclosed DMRs for Outfall 017 provide the corrected TR Fe values for the second quarter of 2013.
The values for all other parameters on the Outfall 017 DMRs remain the same as reported in July of 2013.
Please don't hesitate to contact me at 928 - 913 -9218 or via email at jcochran@peabodyenergy.com if you
have any questions.
J acer ly,
Cochran
body Energy
3001 W.
