1.0 I NTROOl1CT I ON
This vegetation inventory has been designed to meet the requirements
for permitting existing coal mining operations as defined by the
"Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division for
Coal Mining" as published in 1980 and as Interpreted by personnel of
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation.
The Somerset Mine, an underground development located in Gunnison
County near Somerset, has been in operation since 1902. Disturbances
associated with mining including the facilities area, sewage leach
field, powerline access road, and portals have existed for many years
end only a few acres of disturbance are planned for the future. The
method of establishing a baseline standard for measuring revegetation
success was designed considering these factors. Per the instruction
and guidance of Colorado Mined Land Reclamation personnel, all quan-
titative work was confined to en undisturbed zone (reference areal
surrounding the major disturbances. Thus, the baseline standards were
generated.

-1-
