presents descriptions of these two vegetation types based on quanti- <br />tative cover, production, and density data. <br />3.2.1 Mountain Shrubland Vegetation Type <br />Cover <br />The Nbuntaln Shrubland vegetation type occurs on relatively <br />Steep, east and southeast facing slopes. This community is extremely <br />variable in woody plant composition. A total of 17 shrubs end 3 frees <br />were identified during the field inventory. See Table 3. <br />Total tree cover is low in this community 13.1 percentl, <br />which Is comprised of scatteretl Utah juniper fun.ipertua uatev~peiuna <br />i1.8 percentl and Rocky Mountain juniper ?unipertue ~cvpu.(uwm 11.3 percentl. <br />Shrubs, the dominant life form, have a total cover of 31.f! <br />percent, Gambel oak accounts for about half of this total 116.1 <br />percentl. Minor shrub <br />species present include mountain mahogany Ce.xcvcartpra mur+.tanua, rubber <br />rabbitbrush Chrtynvthamnun naueevaue, antelope bitterbrush Pu.anhia <br />Lcide~clala, and Woods rose Ruea muucGii i . <br />Perennial graminoid cover is relatively low 12.9 percentl, <br />The more common species present in order of importance are Indian rice- <br />grass 0.¢y~up~ie /~ymenuiden, native bluegrass fuu apan~i~ennin, quackgrass <br />Aq~vpyrtun 2epert~, Letterman needlegrass Sl~pa [ellevnanii, and basin <br />wi ldrye ELymun une~euo. <br />Annual graminoids contribute a total of 10.0 percent cover, <br />a fact which suggests that this vegetation type has Deen recently <br />disturbed, perhaps Dy overgrazing. Cheafgrass brome Qaumun lecluaum is <br />the most abundant species with 7.4 percent cover, and Japanese brome <br />Qaumun lapun,icun contributes 2.6 percent cover. <br />Perennial sorb cover is low 13.6 percentl, although it is <br />comprised of a large number of species. The more common species include <br />prairie sage Artlemi~ia .[uduviciarta, glaucous aster Alex sCaucvdee, <br />whitetop Ca.xdaaia cha.Capennin, showy daisy C.xigertun npeciu~ua, Colorado <br />bedstraw suli um cuLosaduenne, tailcup lupine Lupinue caudatu~, hoary <br />tansy-aster machae.tan.fherta caneecena, and mules-ear wyethia Wyfelhia <br />amp[exi cau L~ ~. <br />Total annual forb cover is 4.0 percent. Prairie sunflower <br />Ne[,ianlhua pettvLaxie and alyssum A(+~•~•~um minu.+ are common, with 1.2 and <br />-7- <br />
