December 2013
Mine Groundwater Quality Assessment ♦ 7
4.0 SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The results of the historical internal monitoring and recent triannual groundwater
monitoring were used to develop the following AJAX /CCA recommendations for further
monitoring and evaluation of groundwater downgradient of the mine.
• Continued monthly monitoring of MNGW -1 for the indicator parameters listed in
Table 1 as well as the addition of dissolved iron analysis starting in January 2014. It
is suggested that 12 months of monitoring data be collected from MNGW -1.
• Future investigation of the shallow groundwater should also be considered to better
define groundwater flow and water quality. This may consist of two shallow monitor
wells installed in the glacial /alluvial deposits to the north and west of MNGW -1.
However, as stated to DRMS in an October 29, 2013 email from Henderson, siting
of potential monitor well locations in October 2013 encountered access issues
including utility lines and wetlands. Engineered solutions to access potential monitor
well locations will be evaluated in 2014.
• AJAX /CCA recommends Henderson conduct further assessment of potential
sources of low pH conditions in MNGW -1. This should include an analysis of the
potential impact on MNGW -1 water chemistry from No Name Gulch.
AJAX Ltd ♦ 28828 Cedar Circle ♦ Evergreen, CO 80439 ♦ (303) 241 -2057
Clear Creek Associates* 6155 E.
