2013 Annual Report
Front Range Aggregates, LLC
Parkdale Project
Permit # M- 1997 -054
Mining Activity
Mining activity in 2013 along the western mining limit has reached bedrock and is proceeding to the east. 2014
mining activity will continue from west to east, continuing to mine to bedrock that which was previously mined
only to the level of ground water. Consequently, there will be no "new" disturbance in 2014. Mining in this
manner, in conjunction with the reduced groundwater levels in recent years allows mining to proceed with no
interference from groundwater infiltration.
Sales volumes in 2013 only slightly more than those of 2012, well below the peak sales years of 2006 and
2007 and well below anticipated sales volumes projected in the Permit Amendment documents finalized in
2008. Production volumes naturally are well below permitted volumes and have been since 2008.
No mining is taking place on the hard rock granite or sandstone permitted areas of this site as yet.
Ground Water
Groundwater levels continue to be well below those experienced prior to 2009. There is some exposed surface
water resulting from our fresh water and settling ponds that support washed aggregate processing. A
Substitute Water Supply Plan is in place to account for the ground water consumption. Due to reduced ground
water levels, no water was discharged from the pit area in 2013.
Overburden and Top Soil Stockpiles
The top soil and overburden stockpiles from 2011 and 2012 are sloped and vegetation is becoming more
prevalent in spite of the and conditions normally found in the area. Some additional material has been added to
some of these piles. Sloping and stabilization of this additional material has been done as material has been
placed to prevent erosion from sudden rain storms, however occasional.
Reclamation
Some sloping of the western perimeter was accomplished in 2013 and will continue in 2014. Because this site
is permitted as a water storage vessel, final reclamation of the slopes will occur when the impervious slope
liner is installed. In the interim, side slopes will be maintained at approximately 3:1 to minimize erosion and
prepare for the installation of the impervious portion of the liner but will not be counted as reclaimed until such
time as the liner is in place.
Weed Control
Weed control was performed by a licensed applicator again in 2013. The most prevalent weed species that
must be treated are leafy spurge and salt cedar (Tamarisk). The herbicide is applied with a sprayer by a
licensed weed control firm, Fremont County Weed Control. Application took place on July 16, 2013 using a
self - propelled sprayer. The perimeter of the pit, stockpiles and inactive areas of the property were treated.
