This revision is to establish a temporary topsoil pile, install a culvert along a small section of the interim
clear water diversion ditch and install a sediment ditch liner in lieu of riprap in the interim ditch at the south end
of the RPEE.
MCC was in the process of stripping topsoil to the south of the existing, uppermost lift on the RPEE when snow
accumulations curtailed further site preparation. As a result, a small topsoil pile had to be left in place for the
winter. A topsoil sign will be placed on the pile and a small diversion ditch established to route drainage away
from the pile next spring.
A segment of the western interim clearwater ditch crossed a small, spring fed swale that might direct flows
toward the RPEE rather than divert them away. To better avoid potential additional contributions of water from
the swale to the RPEE next spring, MCC will install a culvert in the clearwater ditch across this area.
The west sediment ditch along the southern-most extent of the interim RPEE refuse pile could not be armored
with riprap as is part of the approved design before these construction operations were also curtailed by snow.
To better ensure that the ditch is sufficiently armored to handle runoff flows next spring, MCC will instead place
an armoring material called "SmartDitch" in the ditch in lieu of riprap.
Attached are calculations for the culvert, as well as the SmartDitch liner showing, that both are sufficient for
projected 100 -yr flows. Please contact me at (970) 929 -2238 or by e-mail should you have questions regarding
this submittal.
Sincerely,
Kathleen G. Welt,
Environmental Engineer III
cc: Jessica Loveland
Weston Norris — MCC
Mike Peacock — MCC
Neal Starkebaum — Gunnison Co.
