WATER INFORMATION
1. Surface Water General Discussion
EXHIBIT G
Tomichi Creek is approximately 110 feet south of the permit boundary at the closest point. The
FEMA 100 year flood plain can be seen on Maps C -1, C -2, and F. Stage 1 mining will not take
place within the flood plain, but a portion of Stage 2 will occur in the floodplain. Processing
operations will not be located within the floodplain at any point in the mine life.
Mining within Stage 2 will involve only the excavation of sand and gravel for transport to the
processing area.
The closest edge of Tomichi Creek is roughly 250 feet from the edge of the east sediment pond,
and 300 feet from the nearest edge of the pit. An old railroad grade runs between pit and Tomichi
Creek. In accordance with Gunnison County rules, the operation maintains a 100 foot setback
from all water bodies.
During most of the mine life at Tomichi Pit, the natural drainage of the site will be maintained.
Once an area is stripped of its topsoil, it will drain to the mine pit. This includes the office area.
The post -mine drainage of the site will be similar to the pre -mine, with the change of the lakes
containing a large amount of the site runoff. The runoff calculations for the two drainage areas of
the site can be seen below, along with comparisons of the pits' capacity.
Tomichi Pit, December 2013 G -1
