INTRODUCTION
The proposed Tomichi Pit is located approximately one half mile east of Gunnison, CO in
Gunnison County. The site is bordered on the south by Colorado Division of Wildlife property,
private property owned by Donna Bratton to the west, private property owned by Steven K. Fry,
Cameron Dierks, Dale McDermott, Garnet Manning, and Kelly Bailey to the north, and private
land owned by River's Edge Property, Oldcastle Southwest Group, Inc, Vana Companies, and
public land to the east. The total permit area will be 134.50 acres, with the mining operation
disturbing 72.70 acres. The surrounding landowners are shown on Map C -1 and the mailing
addresses of those landowners are listed in Exhibit R. Right of entry can be found in Exhibit N.
The permittee for this site is Gunnison Valley Properties, LLC. Throughout this application, the
name has been shortened to Gunnison Valley Properties or GVP. The landowner is Gunnison
Valley Properties, LLC. Landownership information can be found in Exhibit O.
The site will be reclaimed to wildlife habitat, with wetland fringes around the edge of the lake
created by the pit. The topography of the reclaimed land is shown on Map F.
The production for the site is anticipated to be 200,000 tons per year. The actual production per
year will depend on market demand in the area and if construction material comes from this pit
for large construction projects. The sand and gravel thickness is believed to be up to 55 feet, but
mining will only take place to a total depth of 49 feet.
Tomichi Pit, December 2013 i -1
