Tom Bird, GCC Energy 29- Nov -2013
C -1981 -035 / TR -20 PAR Page 11 of 12
Permit Maps
1. Map Kung I -007 Operation Plan & Surface Features
2.
3
4.
a) Please identify on this map the various features discussed in the permit text,
specifically the Fan Bench, the Tipple Bench, and the Shop Bench. The location of
the proposed West Waste Bank is identified as a "Coal Storage Area" on this map.
Please clarify in the maps and text whether this area is intended to be used for
"disposal" or "storage" (or both) of coal mine waste.
b) The contour lines are not labeled with elevations.
c) The portal locations should be identified on this map.
d) The topsoil borrow area is shown, but the map should also show the cover material
stockpile area.
e) This map should be updated to include the outline of the proposed final configuration
of the valley -fill Refuse Pile coal mine waste disposal area.
Map King I -016 West Waste Bank Design
a) There is a circular cymbal with an "X" inside that may denote culvert inlets. Please
add this symbol to the Legend.
b) As mentioned previously, it may be that the "Reach 6" ditch is intended to function as
a 100 -year 24 -hour upland diversion for the West Waste Bank disposal area, but the
permit does not clearly indicate that this is the case. The ditch as shown on this map is
not consistent with the location shown on Map King 1 -016A.
c) The proposed coal mine waste disposal area is identified as "West Refuse Pile" on this
map, whereas the term "West Waste Bank" is used in the title block and the permit
text. Please use consistent nomenclature when referring to this structure.
d) The portal locations should be identified on this map.
Map King I -016A West Waste Bank Design
a) This map shows a cross section of the proposed disposal area. As mentioned in 2b,
above, the Reach 6 ditch should be located uphill of the waste bank, and not
constructed upon coal mine waste.
b) Please label the proposed slope (e.g. 2 to 4 %) of the top surface of the pile.
c) Please label the slope on the face of the pile, e.g. 2.5h:1v.
Map King 1 -011 Final Contour
This map was not revised for this application, but it will need to be submitted. It should
incorporate the final proposed configurations of both the West Waste Bank and Refuse Pile
coal mine waste disposal areas.
