SOUTHFIELD WEIGHTED AVERAGE REFERENCE AREA CALCULATIONS
The final weighted average reference area revegetation success standards for plant cover and
forage production for the Southfield Mine will be calculated based upon surveyed areas of the
three respective references areas located at this site. These areas, depicted on Map 16, have been
calculated based upon GPS measurements by IME for the Refuse Pile Reference Area (Plot A)
and the New Portal Reference Area (Pinion - Juniper RA). The old Mine Portal Reference Area
(Plot B) is depicted based on coordinates offered by Dr. Corley.
Weighting
Acreage of the Vegetation Reference Areas (RA's): Factors
Refuse Pile RA (Plot A): 2.80 acres 0.5293 (2.80/5.29)
Old Portal RA (Plot B): 0.42 acre 0.0794 (0.42/5.29)
New Portal RA (Pinion - Juniper RA): 2.07 acres 0.3913 (2.07/5.29)
Total area of RA's: 5.29 acres
The weighting factors are then multiplied to the vegetation data values collected from each
respective Reference Area.
Example:
Collected Weighting
Reference Area Vegetation Data Factor Value
Plot A a X 0.5293 = x
Plot B b X 0.0794 = y
New(pinion juniper) c X 0.3913 = z
Sum of the three RA's weighted vegetation values = (x + y + z)
The sum of the three vegetation values (x + y + z) will then be added into a sum which will be
the ultimate plant cover and forage production revegetation success standards for the Southfield
Mine.
Or, to express in a different way, the sum of the weighted reference area values (the standard)
would then be used for the success comparison for the weighted reclamation blocks.
