PERMIT #: M- 1982 -186
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: November 6, 2013
OBSERVATIONS
This was a "pre- operation" inspection for the Beeson Pit (M1982 -186) conversion from a 110c to 112c permit.
This inspection was conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS who was accompanied by Dave Hornung of Kit Carson
County. The permit sign was present but needs to be replaced or repaired as many of the letters are missing at
this time. The new 112c permit boundary markers were present and corresponded to the new permit boundary
submitted in the conversion application.
Kit Carson County will have has 20.5 acres permitted at this location. The affected area is currently within the
permitted area, however, the pit entrance and topsoil stockpile are very near the eastern and northeastern permit
boundary, and care will need to be taken not to affect land outside the permitted area.
Only two other issues were noted during this inspection. The first is that the pit is significantly deeper at this
time than the current or amended mining plan specifies. A modification should be submitted for the pending
112c conversion mining plan to address this issue.
The last issue noted is the presence of some erosion rilling on the existing pit walls. The county will need to
watch for these erosion features and make sure they are repaired before they become too large. Some
contouring or benching of the pit slopes may be useful in the future to help avoid excessive erosion. No other
issues were observed during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Dave Hornung
Kit Carson County
P O Box 160
Burlington, CO 80807
