Notes for site visit November 11, 2013:
1 arrived on site at around 11 and Bill Bear took me around the site.
We started at gob pile #3 where the first 100' of underdrain was
being installed. A separate certification report of the underdrain
installation will be submitted, but a couple of photos are included in
this report for reference.
Good progress is being made at gob pile #3. Gob was being
compacted, coverfill was being salvaged and gob was being end
dumped and dried. Site conditions were very dry which is helpful for
gob drying operations.
At gob pile #2 activities focused on compacting material that had
been end dumped in the previous weeks. There are currently two
distinct areas of end dumped gob, a southern pile and a northern pile.
The end dumped material in the southern pile was between 4 -6' high.
In the northern end , the height could not be determined because
there was no vehicular access, however, a road above the end
dumped material has been cut for equipment usage. The newly cut
road will be used by the Operator to cut trenches through the gob to
provide a path for positive drainage. After the trenches have been
cut through the northern section of the pile and enough time has
been allowed for the gob to dewater, it will be sufficiently dry for
placement and compaction. The plan for the near future is to knock
down and compact all the material in the south pile, hopefully by the
end of next week. The long term plan is to have the top of gob pile
#2 completely compacted and used only as absolutely necessary for
gob drying activities during the winter months. Buckhorn Geotech is
in the process of modeling a drying area for the top of gob pile #2.
Buckhorn's report will provide parameters of horizontal and vertical
extents in order to achieve the required factor of safety should a
drying area on gob pile #2 become necessary.
The tree in the East Diversion Ditch flow line has been removed and a
photo is included for documentation.
Pond F currently holds about 7' of water and sediment. In
preparation for winter, the Operator plans to dewater the pond by
pumping the water back to the wash plant. Also, sediment will be
cleaned out at the sediment delta where Ditch F -7 enters the pond
and in the pond bottom if accessible.
Pond J currently holds between 5 -7' of water and sediment and there
are no immediate plans to dewater the pond.
