In a letter dated June 28, 2005 from Alan Sorenson with DRMS (formally
DMG) to Bryce Romig with Climax Molybdenum Company, DRMS suggested that observations
of wildlife mortality on Climax Mine property that is not of natural cause, road -kill on public
roads, or a result of legal hunting or fishing be reported within 48 -hours of Climax management
knowledge of the mortality, and that any other wildlife observations of concern be reported
within two weeks of management knowledge.
As per our discussion, Climax would like to clarify its wildlife reporting expectations. Climax
will report wildlife mortalities to DRMS that:
• Involve larger animals or sensitive species (e.g., deer, elk, bear, lynx, etc.) when the
mortality is not of natural causes and is a result of activity related to Climax operations
• Involve multiple wildlife in a single incident (e.g., flock of birds) when the mortalities are
not of natural causes and are the result of activity related to Climax operations
• Involve special circumstances that necessitate notification to the Colorado Division of
Parks and Wildlife
Climax will notify DRMS by phone or in writing within one week of an incident described
above. Please feel free to contact me at 719 - 486 -7584 if you need anything further regarding
this matter. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Raymond Lazuk
Environmental Manager
RECEIVED
OCT 3 0 2013
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
