October 28, 2013
RECEIVED
OCT 3 0 201:3
Mr. Zach Trujillo Division of Reclamation.
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety Mining & Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Minor Revision #157 — As -built modifications to RDH -3 and SH -1 and 2 areas.
Dear Zach:
Enclosed is minor revision (MR -157) requesting modifications within the permit to address as -built
conditions in the above referenced areas shown on Map 155. Along with this discussions concerning weed
control were updated including the addition of one `persistent' herbicide.
Modifications requested pertain mainly to the removal of facilities that were never constructed.
Specifically at RDH -3 the breathable air hole and associated blower were never constructed. The rock
dust hole was retrofitted to supply air to trapped miners using air supplied from the compressors.
Problems arising during construction of B -Vent Shaft #2 caused it to fail and a significant length of
expensive drill steel remains in the pilot hole. We are currently assessing means of recovering the steel.
The associated hoist, compressor, and generator facilities were never constructed at this hole and were
removed from Map 155 and appropriate references were added to the text of the permit.
Modifications were made to the pad area for SH -2 to move the topsoil pile away from the fuel facilities to
allow revegetation of the pile. Previously portions of the pile were purposely kept barren due to MSHA
requirements to keep flammable materials 25 feet away from such facilities.
Discussions concerning weed control measures were also updated to address current thoughts on the
control of cheatgrass by herbicides and with the use of Forage kochia. Sulfometuron + Chlorsulfuron
(Landmark XP) was added to the list of `persistent' herbicides for a cheatgrass control option.
If you have any further questions please contact me at 970 - 675 -4322.
Sincerely,
Scott Wanstedt
Environmental Engineer
swanstedt( deserado.com
enc:
cc: Jeff Dubbert
Paul Daggett -- BLM
