PERMIT #: M- 1977 -251
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: PSH
INSPECTION DATE: October 17, 2013
OBSERVATIONS
The Lariat Pit was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division /DRMS) as part of the Division's monitoring inspection program. The site was previously inspected by
the Division on July 10, 2008. Mr. Jason McGraw with General Shale was present during the inspection.
The Division currently holds a financial warranty in the amount of $72,739.00, which appears adequate based
on this inspection. The mine sign was observed as required by Rule 3.1.12 and the mining disturbance
appeared to be contained within the permit boundary.
The site was inactive during the inspection. The site is "campaign" mined by General Brick. Clay is mined in a
period of weeks and stockpiled on site for later removal and transport to the processing facility in Lakewood
for the production of bricks. The site is permitted for 287.6 acres. According to the last several annual
reports, 31.7 acres are currently affected. The disturbed area is divided into two sections; the mining area and
stockpile storage area. The stockpile area is located east of the mining area and contains the stormwater pond
and topsoil stockpile, which are located south of the product stockpiles.
The site was last mined in 2007. The Operator stated the mine highwall was expanded to the south during the
last mining activity. The Operator plans to continue to mine the existing mine area deeper and continue to
daylight the excavation to the east. The condition of the site was accurately depicted in the 2013 Annual
Report.
No reclamation activities have started at the site. The topsoil stockpile was well vegetation and appeared
stable.
No noxious weeds were observed during the inspection. The site is monitored as part of the weed control
plan approved under technical revision no. 3. No erosion was noted and the stormwater pond in the stockpile
area contained water from the recent precipitation.
No problems were noted during the inspection. Photographs taken during the inspection are attached.
Inspection Contact Address
Mr. Jason McGraw
General Shale Brick, Inc.
1845 W.
