Box 483 Director
Paonia, CO 81428
Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C- 1996 -083)
Technical Revision No. 78 (TR- 78)
Six Gob Vent Boreholes and One Exploration Hole
Dear Mr. Bear:
The Division has received correspondence from Jim Stover, on behalf of Bowie Resources, LLC
(BRL), requesting approval to drill exploration hole SS -8, approved under TR -78 for the Bowie
No. 2 Mine. The revision proposed the installation of six gob vent boreholes and one
exploration hole. We had previously advised BRL that drilling of the exploration hole (SS -8)
would be prohibited until mine plan approval for lease C -37210 had been granted by the Office
of Surface Mining (OSM). Mr. Stover noted that BRL has Bureau of Land Management and U.S.
Forest Service approval for this drill hole, and that the drill hole is for exploration purposes only.
As such, the Division will allow BRL to drill SS -8 prior to mine plan approval for lease C- 37210.
The drilling plan has been approved and the required performance bond posted, so drilling of
the hole may commence immediately. As previously stated, however, no surface mining
activities may take place in this lease area until mine plan approval has been granted by OSM.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L.
