PERMIT #: M -2010 -082
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: MAC
INSPECTION DATE: October 3, 2013
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). John DeWitt of Lincoln County was also present for the inspection. The Jamaco Pit is located 4 miles
west and 2 miles north of Arriba, CO. The site is permitted for 9.81 acres and the post- mining land use is
rangeland.
The Division received a request for an acreage release on August 29, 2013; the request was submitted in
accordance with Rule 4.17. The Division sent notice of the release request to the Lincoln County
Commissioners, the High Plains Soil Conservation District and the landowner. The Division did not receive any
comments from the noticed parties. The Operator has requested the release of 7.9 acres from the permitted
area. The area requested to be released lies on the east side of the site. The purpose of this inspection was to
verify that the area requested for release had not been affected by the mining operation.
The permit sign was posted at the site entrance and the boundary of the affected area was clearly delineated
as required by Rule 3.1.12. The Jamaco Pit is operated intermittently; no mining was occurring at the time of
the inspection. The Operator has disturbed approximately 1.5 acres to date. Topsoil has been removed and
stockpiled at the north end of the site; the stockpile was stable and did not show any signs of erosion. The
area which was requested for release has not been affected by the mining operation; the area is currently
utilized by the landowner for general agriculture purposes. Based on observations made during this
inspection, the request for an acreage reduction will be approved. Notice of the Division's decision regarding
the release request will be sent under separate cover.
This concluded the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
John DeWitt
Lincoln County
P.O.
