STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
October 2, 2013
Mr. Chris McCourt
Colowyo Coal Company
5731 State Highway 13
Meeker, CO 81641
Re: Colowyo Mine, Permit No. C- 1981 -019, Reclamation liability
Dear Mr. McCourt:
Tony Tennyson asked that I send you this information.
COLORADO
D I V I S I ON OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The current reclamation liability for the Colowyo Mine is $338,011,153.85. The amount of this related to
the Collom expansion is $260,571,633.85. (This was calculated during the process of approving PR -03.)
The remainder of the liability (the difference between these two figures) is $77,439,520.00. Prior to the
start of any work at Collom, this latter figure is the amount of bond required, per our rules.
Our records indicate that Colowyo Coal Company holds bonds for Colowyo Mine that total
$80,517,829.00. Thus the mine is sufficiently bonded as long as the work at Collom (approved with PR-
03) is not initiated.
Please contact me (extension 8113, rob_zuber @state.co.us) if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
a'- "'7 7"'
Robert Zuber, P.E.
Environmental Protection Specialist
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
