2012 Reclamation Report <br />Southfield Mine <br />abandoned Vento mine office building; <br />* Reshaped `bar trenches' across road to direct sheet flow to road ditch above the intersection of <br />CR92 & the refuse pile road; <br />* Cleaned /graded road ditch adjacent to intersection of CR92 & refuse pile road; the steep <br />section of the refuse pile road and the CR92 ditch that flows westerly toward Magpie <br />Creek; <br />* Cleaned sediment (dug sump) at inlet end of the northmost inlet culvert in Pond 5. <br />* Repaired erosion at roadside of north extent of the Monarch fan road & installed a water bar <br />in road; bladed 3 sections of ditch on Monarch road and bladed rutted section previously <br />reported by the DRMS. <br />Map 1, Mine Site Reclamation, portrays the general location, dates, and areas of revegetation and <br />reseeding in and adjacent to the former Mine Facilities area. In addition, the map indicates the <br />locations of Mine Site reclamation activities completed during 2012. Dates of revegetation and /or <br />reseeding for the ancillary facilities areas and the Loadout area are shown on Map 2, Ancillary <br />Facilities Areas Reclamation, and Map 3, Loadout Area Reclamation, respectively. <br />Disturbed, Backfilled and Topsoiled Areas <br />Due to some subsidence found at the abandoned Canon National Mine located in Section 25, 0.50 <br />acre was considered disturbed and therefore the subsidence features were cleaned of debris, <br />backfilled, re- topsoiled, seeded and mulched during October of 2012. The subsidence consisted of <br />six holes that had settled due to the shallow mine workings of the abandoned mine. Backfill <br />material was used from the adjacent abandoned spoils pile that had been left from the former <br />mine facilities area. The footprint of the removed portion of the spoils pile was also re- topsoiled, <br />seeded and mulched. Minor Revision No. 58 (MR -58) was submitted and approved for the <br />mitigation performed for the subsidence repair work. Further detail is also included under the <br />subtitle, Subsidence Mitigation in a later portion of this report. <br />Previously, during May 2007, a small sinkhole had formed on the northeast flank of the refuse <br />pile south of and adjacent to Pond 4. It was approximately 15 ft in diameter and 6 to 8 ft deep. Al <br />Weaver of Weaver Engineering Services determined from old works maps that the subsidence <br />was from the east portion of the abandoned Canon Shamrock Mine. The subsidence was <br />immediately backfilled and compacted with material borrowed from the south shore of Pond 4. <br />The site was then reseeded with the approved seed mix. The site is inspected on a routine basis <br />and no further disturbance or settling has been observed. <br />Seeded or Planted Areas <br />During October of 2012, 0.5 acre was seeded at mitigation work performed at the abandoned <br />Canon National mine as explained in the above topic, Disturbed, Backfilled and Topsoiled Areas. <br />3 <br />
