In addition, District Wildlife Manager, Bob Holder {(719) 680 -1410 cell} would be
available for onsite education to reduce human/wildlife conflicts upon request or to assist
in management concerns.
Other recommendations or considerations that might be applicable for the All Rite Paving
and Redi -Mix Stonewall Pit and surrounding area are:
✓ Protect wetlands, drainages, and riparian areas from erosion, sedimentation and
spills. Map wetlands prior to development to identify and properly permit these
sensitive areas. Consider wetland banking if feasible. This could be crucial in the
area described as numerous 'boggy' areas occur in the Stonewall Valley
proximity which dictate harvestable hay field locations and therefore might
impact subterranean excavation and wildlife habitat.
✓ Conserve soil horizons and segregate topsoil from subsoil. Re- vegetate topsoil
piles to maintain soil microbe health and viability
✓ Minimize habitat fragmentation by limiting surface disturbance at any one time.
✓ Make every effort to aggressively control noxious and invasive weed species.
Consult county and State of Colorado guidelines for weed identification and
control. Map weed accumulations prior to ground disturbance to optimize weed
mitigation.
✓ Educate employees and contractors on best management practices, environmental
regulations, and raise awareness on wildlife issues.
✓ Encourage participation in CDOW's Operation Game Thief program and
immediately report all potential poaching incidents. Educate contractors on the
importance of poaching and wildlife harassment mitigation. Operation Game
Thief is a Colorado Parks and Wildlife program, which pays rewards to citizens
who turn in poachers. You can call us toll -free within Colorado at 1- 877 -COLO-
OGT, Verizon cell phone users can dial #OGT, or contact us via e-
mail at Operation Game Thief.
✓ Restrict and monitor vehicular speed to reduce wildlife collision potential,
increase safety, and minimize dust generation.
✓ Fence livestock out of newly reclaimed areas until reclamation becomes
established. Fence construction should follow CDOW fencing guidelines and be
durable to avoid wildlife entrapment.
