2012 Reclamation Report
Southfield Mine
the track that was used to access the site. At the landowners request and with the approval of the
Division, tree limbs from the tree removal operation were chipped and spread as a mulch on the
holes and the pile's footprints. On departure from the site, the barbed wire fence and fence posts
were replaced and the No Trespassing sign was reinstalled. Seed mix tags, soil analysis and
photos of the operation are included with this submittal.
Numerous other concerns of varying subjects were received from landowner Corley Company
during the report year. Many of the concerns were addressed by EFCI and the DRMS, other
concerns will be addressed prior to approval of the Final Phase 3 Bond Release Request.
Vnndnnt bite
The DRMS reported that there was a water gate missing from the pond discharge horizontal
culvert at Pond L1 at the Loadout site. During late December, EFCI installed and sealed a steel
plate in the culvert discharge and cleaned sediment from within the horizontal culvert and at the
discharge end of the culvert.
Former Truck Tunnel
DRMS had reported some rilling and slight erosion occurring adjacent to the northeast end of the
former truck tunnel. EFCI installed a length of siltfence on the referenced embankment and
intends to add some rip -rap rock at the end of the retainer wall.
C'.nnehisinn
Varying numbers of Elk continue to frequent and graze the entire mine area. Bear scat and tracks
are found frequently during late summer and fall seasons at the site. Although vegetation at the
site appears to be stunted and stressed during 2012 from lack of rain and snowfall, it continues to
be effective erosion control. An increase in rain /snow precipitation would certainly be a major
benefit for the entire region.
•3
