- =` WESTERN
FUELS
ASSOCIATION
INC.
` = The National
Fuel Supply
Coope)ative
September 10, 2013
RECEIVED
SEP 16 2013
MINING NG AND SAFETY
Sent Via U.S. Mail & Email
Ms. Marcia Talvitie
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Durango Field Office
691 CR 233, Suite A -2
Durango, Colorado 61301
Subject: Coal Exploration Drill Hole or Well Abandonment Report
Dewatering Well DW12 -1 (CDWR Permit #77131)
Dear Ms. Talvitie:
Please find attached the Coal Exploration Drill Hole or Well Abandonment Report for dewatering
well DW12 -1, which was drilled as outlined in MR -07 (Section 2.05.3(3) pg. 1), as well as copies of
Form GWS -09: Well Abandonment Report for permitted wells #77131, #77132 and #77133.
Dewatering well DW12 -1 was drilled to a total depth of 70.5 feet at which the original floor of the
old Peabody Nucla Mine was encountered. Dewatering well DW12 -1 was a dry hole and not of use
as a dewatering well for the old Peabody Nucla Mine backfill. Therefore, the hole was plugged as
described on the attached forms on August 22, 2013. On September 4, 2013, the top 2.5 feet of
the 10 inch surface casing (installed and cemented to a depth of 20 feet) was cut off.
Dewatering well DW12 -1 was drilled after the topsoil had been removed. The well site will be used
for overburden stockpiling and the surface will be reclaimed with the final reclamation of the pit.
Final placement of the topsoil will result in the top of the 10 inch casing being at a depth of about 4
feet below the reclaimed surface.
The results of drilling dewatering well DW12 -1 indicate that the proposed and permitted wells
DW12 -2 (CDWR #77132) and DW12 -3 (CDWR #77133) would likewise be dry. Therefore,
proposed dewatering wells DW12 -2 and DW12 -3 will not be drilled.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me at 303 - 255 -5803.
Sincerely,
z;st;5
Jason S.
