10`ri`n
State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Fwd: Southfield Mine TR39
Since the slope aspect has been a major reason given for switching to the proposed veg ref area, and since the slope
aspects are easily and readily measurable, this disagreement should not be a question. If any part of the whole TR39 is
objective, this should be the easy part to determine the direction of the slope.
There may still be time to sort out problems with TR39. Kent was going to mark the perimeter of the proposed area, but I
have not had any time to visit the site. I don't know if the sampling of the various areas has given any preliminary or final
results that might clarify the situation. I suppose that there is a chance that EFCI may want to evaluate both veg ref areas
to decide which to try to use. Probably the hearing should be scheduled.
Doug Corley
From: "Binns - DNR, Janet" <janet.binns@state.co.us>
To: "W D Corley, Jr." <ao att.net>
Cc: George Patterson <efcoal gmail.com>
Sent: Monday, September 16, 2013 11:23 AM
Subject: Southfield Mine TR39
Good Morning Dr. Corley,
George Patterson has informed me that Daryl Mergen is conducting vegetation sampling on the Corley
property of the reclaimed Southfield portal area. He also informed me that you and Daryl had met the
consultant, Kent Crofts, at the mine site. Was Kent able to answer the questions you had regarding TR39?
Specifically, I was wondering if your questions identified in your June 4, 2013 (received by DRMS
6/6/2013) letter have been adequately addressed? If so, do you wish to withdraw your request for a formal
hearing for TR39 proposed decision?
If you still have concerns regarding the Division's proposed decision for TR39, I will put the request for
hearing on the October Mine Land Reclamation Board hearing scheduled for October 16 and 17, 2013.
Please let me know if there are still unresolved concerns regarding the TR39 proposed decision. Thank you
for your time.
Janet H Binns
Environmental Protection Specialist III
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
office: 303.866.3567 ext. 8107
email: janet.b` iss @state.coms
https: / /mail.g oog le.conVmai I /u /0 / ?ui =2 &i Ire29129fcb5 &viev-- pt &search =i nbox&th= 1412829bb34ed872 2/2
