• received, thickness weighted basis for the B Seam and D Seam mineable intervals are summarized in <br />Table II.B-2. The raw coal (run-of-mine) is washed in the Deserado Mine preparation plant. The prep <br />plant removes the out of seam dilution (non-coal material from roof and floor) as well as in seam <br />partings. The weighted average clean coal product for 1998 had 13.02% moisture, 10.09% ash, 0.44% <br />sulfur and a heating value of 10359 BTU/Ib onthe as-received basis at the power plant. During 1995, a <br />bypass to the preparation plant was constructed. This allows shipping relatively low ash coal without <br />washing. <br />Laboratory analysis of nine samples of the D Seam and seven samples of the B Seam indicate <br />average sulfur content of the seams is broken down as follows: <br /> D SEAM B SEAM <br />Sulfate <0.01% 0.01% <br />Pyrite <0.03% 0.07% <br />Organic <0.40% 0.30% <br />TOTAL 0.43% 0.38% <br />These figures are representative of the sulfur content of the seams throughout the lease area. <br />• <br />Permit Revision #5 (3/2005) II.B-10 <br />
