• received, thickness weighted basis for the B Seam and D Seam mineable intervals are summarized in
Table II.B-2. The raw coal (run-of-mine) is washed in the Deserado Mine preparation plant. The prep
plant removes the out of seam dilution (non-coal material from roof and floor) as well as in seam
partings. The weighted average clean coal product for 1998 had 13.02% moisture, 10.09% ash, 0.44%
sulfur and a heating value of 10359 BTU/Ib onthe as-received basis at the power plant. During 1995, a
bypass to the preparation plant was constructed. This allows shipping relatively low ash coal without
washing.
Laboratory analysis of nine samples of the D Seam and seven samples of the B Seam indicate
average sulfur content of the seams is broken down as follows:
D SEAM B SEAM
Sulfate <0.01% 0.01%
Pyrite <0.03% 0.07%
Organic <0.40% 0.30%
TOTAL 0.43% 0.38%
These figures are representative of the sulfur content of the seams throughout the lease area.
•
Permit Revision #5 (3/2005) II.B-10
