Whitewater Building Materials Corp. WW 500 PIT
Permit # M- 1977 -129 2013 Annual Report
22- September -2013
Notes:
Please refer to Map 1 of 2 and Map 2 of 2 when reviewing the following
information. The effective date of all information is August 29, 2013.
8. Stripping continued 6.31 acres additional in Stage 3 - Part A east of the area being mined
(yellow). The topsoil along the north side of the excavated
area remains undisturbed. This berm serves two purposes, as a topsoil pile and an MSHA safety
berm. We estimate there is approximately 48,000 yards of overburden stored in Stage 6 (not on
map) and another 20,000 yards stored in Stage 3 - PART B (brown). These piles are in a constant
state of flux with material being added and removed as needed. The settling ponds are still being
used to clean process water (dark blue).
9. On May 19, 2013 the Division released Whitewater from Reclamation responsibilities on 97.34
acres in parts of Phase 2(A) and Phase 2(B) shown on Sheet 1 of 2 (purple area). We continued to
backf ill the excavated area on the north end of Stage 3 part A and to store overburden on the area.
No additional reclamation was required. We will continue to monitor the area seeded in Phase 2 -
Part A, west of the souther plant site and do remedial seeding if necessary.
11. Backfilling will continue in Stage 3 - Part A and along the edges of the lakes until final grade is
reached.
13. Weed control continued this year in the areas around Phase 2- PARTS A & B and Stage 3 - PART
A. We sprayed Knapweed and White Top from April thru August in 2013 with water soluble 2 -4 -0
and Curtail. A mowing program was also used to aid in control. This is still an uphill battle since
there is little or no control taking place on properties surrounding the mine and seed is being wind
blown in from offsite areas that we have no control over. Spraying will continue as needed. We
continue to monitor Tamarisk growth on the site and control as warranted.
16. The mine has approved Augmentation Plans for all of the post 1981 lake areas.
21. Please refer to the 2013 Annual Report Map for location of the areas of disturbance in the
mine.
