3. Operations of the remaining large augmentation plans were documented through review of
HydroBase associations, interviews with water users, and analysis of various pieces of
information:
• HydroBase associations to augmentation plans were reviewed to identify the wells
covered under the plans (demands) and the sources and infrastructure available for
augmentation (supplies).
• Plan operations were developed based on the typical operations shared by the
augmentation plans reviewed in Step 2. above, supported by discussions with water users
and Division 1 personnel (see References section).
Modeling Recommendations
Recommendations developed for representing well use and well augmentation for the SPDSS
StateMod Water Resources Planning model are based on plan IDs, plan operations, decree
reviews, discussions with Division 1 personnel and DWR and CWCB personnel. Information
and specifics regarding modeling recommendations for the 121argest plans (see Table 4 in
Results section) are included in Appendix A-1 through Appendix A-12 at the end of this
memorandum, based on review of decrees, information from HydroBase, interviews with users
and Division 1 personnel, and associated information. Initial modeling recommendations for the
remaining major augmentation plans (see Table 3) are summarized in Appendix A-13 through
Appendix A-25, based on information from HydroBase, interviews with users and Division 1
personnel, and associated information.
RESULTS
Plan Identification
Wells were characterized into different groupings in order to identify those wells requiring
augmentation, as described in the Approach section. The GIS 2001 SPDSS Irrigated Acreage
Assessment identified about 910,518 irrigated acres in the South Platte River basin, as
summarized in Table 1.
Table 1
Year 2001 SPDSS Irri ated Acrea a Assessment
SW Only SW / GW GW Only Total
Acrea e 509,089 234,182 167,247 910,518
of Total 56% 26% 18% 100%
Source: SPDSS 2001 GIS Irrigated Acreage Assessment (June 19, 2007), associated GIS coverages, and
HydroBase (V20060816).
Note: SW -Surface Water supply; GW -Ground Water supply.
7of16
