APPENDIX A-6 Lower Logan Well Users Augmentation Plan -Plan ID 6402536
Lower Logan Well Users is an umbrella organization that covers well users under multiple ditch
systems in Water District 64, located predominantly in the eastern part of Logan County (see
Figure 1). The depletion reach for the Lower Logan Well Users is along the South Platte River
between Sterling and Crook, which extends from about the Bravo Ditch down to the Settlers
Ditch. The Lower Logan Well Users operated under an SWSP from 2003 until the augmentation
plan (Case No. 03CW208) was decreed in January 2005. Wells in the Lower Logan Well Users
Plan were historically enrolled in GASP.
The number of wells associated with the augmentation plan from sources reviewed for this effort
is summarized in Table 1.
Table 1
Wells Associated with Lower Logan Well Users Augmentation Plan (Plan ID 6402536)
Source Number of Wells
03CW208 decree 145
HydroBase associations (Version 20060816) 160
Tied to acreage in GIS Irrigated Acreage Assessment* 129
User interview 145
* Subset of HydroBase association based on wells decreed for irrigation with decreed rates greater than 50 gpm and specifically
tied to lands in the 2001 Irrigated Acreage Assessment.
A number of possible explanations exist for the variation in number of wells listed in the decree
versus HydroBase, including:
• Some augmentation plan decrees allow wells to be added to the plan without re-adjudicating
the plan.
• Some of the listed HydroBase wells may be recharge wells, augmentation wells, or decreed
for other uses.
• Some wells may have been replaced and the original wells are still included in HydroBase.
A number of possible explanations exist for the variation in number of wells tied to acreage from
the list of wells in HydroBase, including:
• Wells may be mis-located in the GIS coverage and therefore not assigned to irrigated
parcel(s).
• Wells are not active.
• Wells not decreed or decreed for less than 50 gallons per minute.
• Wells are decreed for other uses (e.g., augmentation, recharge, domestic, municipal,
commercial, stock water, etc.).
• The association of a well to the augmentation plan ID may be incorrect in HydroBase.
System Overview
Eight recharge projects were adjudicated in the Lower Logan Well Users augmentation plan to
provide replacement water supplies from recharge wells or surface water supplies diverted
through the Bravo Ditch, Iliff and Platte Valley Ditch, and Harmony No. 1 Ditch. About 56
recharge sites under various ditches, approximately 15 recharge wells, and 32 augmentation
wells were adjudicated for augmentation and replacement purposes.
