Title
RGDSS - Rio Grande Historic Crop Consumptive Use Analysis
Description
The documentation is for the Rio Grande Basin Historic Crop Consumptive Use Analysis, developed during the RGDSS implementation for the period 1950 through 2002. It includes 100 percent of the crop consumptive use in the basin for the period. Documentation consists of the final Historic Crop Consumptive Use Analysis Report and supporting appendices.

Irrigation water requirements are satisfied from both surface water and ground water.
Table 18 shows the average water supply-limited consumptive use for each Water
District by source for the study period. Figure 14 shows the overall basin information by
year. As shown, consumptive use from ground water tends to be higher in years when
consumptive use from surface water is less (i.e. in years of short surface water supply).
Note the consumptive use from surface water includes excess surface water stored in the
soil moisture and then subsequently used by crops. Ground water, as modeled, does not
contribute to soil moisture storage.
Table 18
Average Annual Consumptive Use by Source - 1950 through 2002
Water
District Consumptive Use
from Surface Water Consumptive Use
from Ground Water Total CU Surface Water
as % of Total
20 203,128 230,991 434,119 47%
21 30,533 18,413 48,946 62%
22 67,495 27,863 95,358 71%
24 28,406 10,535 38,941 73%
25 20,972 18,466 39,438 53%
26 16,359 22,334 38,693 42%
27 6,070 22,020 28,090 22%
35 21,512 13,949 35,461 61%
Total 394,475 364,571 759,046 52%
Figure 14
Consumptive Use from Surface Water and Ground Water
sooooo
700000
600000
500000
v 400000
R
U 300000
200000
100000
0

. ^

~ ^

~ ~
~ ~

^ ~~ ~ ,
~ ~
• ~ ~ ~
~

i
~ ~ ~~ ~i
,~ • ~ ~ ~ ~
i
~ , • ~~ i

1950 1955 1960 1965 1970 1975 1980 1985 1990 1995 2000
CU from Surface Water ~ ~ CU from Ground Water
cureport_6-2004.doc 39 of 48 June, 2004
