.

1567

.

La Veta Water Treatment Plant
NPDES #
WQMP I.D. No. HU-12

.

The La Veta Water Treatment Plant is located 005 miles south
of La Veta. The raw water from the Cucharas River is treated
with aluminum sulfate and coagulated before it is filtered
through a bed of sand and chlorinated. The sand filters are
periodically backwashed and the dirty water is discharged to
a settling pond. At peak treatment rates (0.3 mgd) during the
summer, the pond overflows. The overflow is then used for ir-
rigation on an adjacent field.

.

Marlboro Motel
NPDES #
WQMP 1. D. No. HU-5

.

The Marlboro Motel is located approximately 3 miles southwest
of Ualsenburg. The Marlboro Motel complex includes a restau-
rant, gas station, motel and lounge.

The sewage treatment system consists of a single facultative non-
aerated lagoon. It appears to be "grossly" undersized and has
a very green algae laden effluento It appears from the sacks on
the bank of the lagoon that it is dosed occasionally with fertilizer.
The effluent flows through a ditch where it combines with a creek
and flows to the Cucharas Rivero

.

.

.

.

.

111

.

~
