1981 Salinity Control Forum Report

Introduction

Numeric criteria for salinity at three lower mainstem
stations in the Colorado River system were cooperatIvely
developed and agreed upon by the seven states of the Colorado
River Basin in 1975. The Colorado River Basin Salinity Control
Forum (the Forum) also developed and agreed upon a basinwide plan
of implementation for salinity control in its 1975 report. The
pollcy set forth in the 1975 Forum report is to maintain the
adopted numeric criteria for salinity while the basin states
continue to develop their compact-apportioned waters.

1981 Reveiw

The Forum's "Proposed Report on the 1981 Review, Water
Quality Standards for Salinity, Colorado River System" was
adopted by the Forum in July and subsequently distributed for
public comment (Board members received the Forum's report in
August). Two public hearings were also held in September. A
supplement to the proposed report was then prepared and has been
approved by the Forum. These two documents, taken together,
constitute the Forum's 1981 review.

Based upon its rev iew, the Forum has found no reason to
recommend changes in the numeric salinity criteria which were
established at the three stations on the lower maInstem of the
Colorado RIver In 1975. These numeric criteria are:
