The snowpack <br />amount went from well below average, to well above average in only a few days, and was nearly as <br />high as the average seasonal maximum (April I ). During the second half of May the snowpack has <br />been melting very quickly lowering the amount of snow to only 90% of average on June I. Most of <br />the remaining snow is in the Upper Rio Grande Watershed above 11,000 feet elevation. The reservoir <br />storage level in the basin is at 138% of average, which is 8% more than last year at this time. As the <br />snowpack and precipitation conditions have improved so did the streamflow forecasts. They ran~e <br />from 82% of average on the Los Pinos River near Ortiz to 110% of average on the.
