Alm RESERVOIR <br />PUEBLO, COLORADO <br /> <br />OPERATION <br /> <br />PART I <br /> <br />1. GENERAL. Pueblo Dam is located on the Arkansas River about 6 miles <br /> <br />upstream fr0m Pueblo, Colorado. The reservoir has an initial capacity of <br /> <br />about 357,000 acre-feet, of which 234,000 acre-feet are used for municipal, <br /> <br />'industrial; ~,d irrigation uses; 27,000 acre-feet for exclusive flood control; <br /> <br />66,000 acre-feet for joint use; and a minimum pool of 30,000 acre-feet for <br /> <br />a per:nanent pool. The 66,000 acre-feot joint use pool will be eV<lcl1<lteci by <br /> <br />15 April each year and will be available for exclusive flood control until <br /> <br />1 NovC'rJber. Thc project lias constructed by the U.S. Burenu of Recl"contion <br /> <br />as a part of the Fryin~pan-Arkansas Project, authorized under Public Law <br /> <br />,87-590, approved 16 Au~ust 1962. The flood control storage space will be <br /> <br />operated in accordanc~ I;ith rules and regulations to be prescribed by the <br /> <br />Secretary of the Army. The remaining stora~e capacity will be operated to <br /> <br />conform ,lith the criteria and limitations of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project <br /> <br />established in the "Operating Principles, Fryingpan-Arkansas Project," <br /> <br />adopted by the State of Colorado, 30 April 1959, as amended. <br /> <br />2. Flood Control Operation Requirements. Section 7 of the 1944 Flood <br /> <br />Control Act specifics that, "It shall be the duty of the Secretary of War <br /> <br />to prescribe regulations for the use of stora~e a'llocated for flood control <br /> <br />or navigation at all reservoirs constructed wholly or in part with Federal <br />
