Broadhent, Commissioner of Reclamation, today announced the

award of a $2,437,700 contract to Addison Construction Company of Denver, Colo.,

for construction of a 161-kilovolt switchyard at its Yuma Desalting Plant site

four miles west of YllmA, Arb:.

Under terms of the contract, Addison will prepare the switchyard site;
furnish and erect all switchyard facilities, including a control building and
40,000 liter capacity oil storage tank; and furnish and install all electrical
equipment and systems. The firm will also design some of the switchyard features.

A 3.9 mile-long, 161-kilovolt transmission line from Knob Substation,
located northwest of Yuma in Imperial County, Calif., will carry power to the
switchyard. A $749,461 contract for construction of this line was awarded to
a California firm in March, and construction was begun.

The Yuma Desalting Plant is the central Title I feature of the Colorado River
Basin Salinity Control Project, a federally sponsored project to meet treaty
obligations placing limits on the salt content of Colorado River water flowing
into Mexico.

The first construction contract for the plant, which included site prepara-
tion and intake system construction, is about 95 percent complete.

The next major construction contract for the pretreatment system and
desalting plant is scheduled for award in July 1982.

Construction of the switchyard will take about 18 months.

II

/I

II

]NT 3510-61
1IIIIlllflllll/I/IIIlIIUI

E' d
( ;J-/
