~ja~6

~
~
THE STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF COLORADO

State Archaeologist, 5A Ketchum Bldg., University of Colorado, Boulder 80302

July 23, 1976

Mr. Bob McCabe
Water Conservation Board
Room 823
1313 Sherman
Denver, Colorado 80203

Dear Bob:

Enclosed is my final report for the Brown's Park Segment
of the Yampa/Green Rivers. This (1) with (2) my verbal
input on the Tuesday/20 July 1976 meeting constitute my
formal archaeological evaluation of the entire study area.

(a) I regard the archaeological value of the Brown's Park
Segment as outstandingly significant.

(b) I regard the Yampa and Green Rivers within the Monument
not as outstandingly significant, but rather as exceIlent.

They constitute a very good normative sample of local pre-
history and history, and are a ~monstrated producer of
archaeological data. However, this data does not differ
materially from what we expect or know from adjacent drainages.
The Brown's River Segment in contrast is outstanding due to its
excellent potential for stratified multi-component sites bearing
upon this normative data but in the new dimensions of preserva-
tion and the immediately adjacent horticultural base.

My best,

{ ellc\osure
U \l\l\1,e(s) 0
.-.:l-- {oM'"

ruce E.
