Dear Mr. McDonald:

A report describing the flood hazard along the North Fork Gunnison River from Hotchkiss to
Somerset, Delta and Gunnison Counties, is inclosed. This report wa5 prepared in respon5e to
your 30 March 1977 letter and original requests from the Commissioners of Delta and Gunnison
Counties. Fifty copies of the report will be furnlshe-d to each county involved.

The report includes discussion of the nature of flooding in the area studied, descriptive data on
the 100-year flood in that area, maps (scale 1 inch = 400 feet) showing areas subject to 100-year
flooding, profiles showing the elevation5 the 10-, 50-, 100-, and SOO-year f100d5 are expected to
reach, and a brief explanation of the methodology of deriving the magnitude of the 100-year
flood. A table of floodflow values together with corresponding water surface elevation5 i5
shown as Appendix A. Reproducible maps (scale 1 inch = 200 feet) showing the limit5 of the 100,
year flood will be furnished to you.

Detailed information on the hydrologic 5tudy basic to the report Is contained in an April1979
Office Memorandum entitled "Gunnison and Uncompahgre Rivers, Delta and Montrose
Counties, Colorado, Flood Hazard Information Hydrology." That memorandum has been
furni5hed to you, and copies are available for review in this office. Authority for preparing the
inclosed report was provided by Section 206 of the 1960 Flood Control Act, as amended. On the
request of interested public agencies, the Sacramento District will Interpret data in the report
and provide technical assistance in their application.

The Sacramento District gratefully acknowledges the assistance and cooperation of the
Commissioners and Planning Departments of Delta and Gunnison Counties; the Colorado
Department of Highways; the Colorado Water Conservation Board; the National Weather
Service; the U.S. Water and Power Resource5 Service; the U.s. Soil Conservation Service;
