Walcher <br />Executi've Director <br /> <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Rod Kuharicb <br />Dit'cctor <br /> <br />CWCB Members <br />Dan McAuliffe <br />January 12, 2001 <br />Water Resource Information Center <br /> <br />Dan McAuliffe <br />Deputy Director <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The General Assembly authorized the expenditure of $60,000 in 1993 to "assemble and <br />make available to water users in Colorado a consolidated water resources information center" <br />(Sec. 6, HB 93-1273). <br /> <br />An additional $15,000 was authorized in 1996 for the continued operation of the WRIC. <br /> <br />Until November 2000, the materials to be placed in the WRIC were stored in the <br />basement of the Allison Building located across the street from the CWCB office on Sherman <br />Stroot in Denver. <br /> <br />In November the CWCB subleased 1,300 square feet of office space at 1580 Logan Street <br />next to the Colorado Water Congress's office. The goal is to make a truly accessible and useful <br />WRIC as the General Assembly intended in 1993. <br /> <br />The office has a main entry foyer and three offices, The material that has been moved to <br />this location will be imaged beginning in 2001. The imaged documents will then be set to a <br />pennanent storage facility. The imaged documents will be available via the Internet or at the new <br />WRIC. The space may also be used to train people how to use Decision Support System <br />technology, for meetings and additional office space. <br /> <br />The funds being requested are intended to cover operating costs like rent, telephone and <br />computer support for four-years. <br /> <br />Retommendation (written as proposed statutory language) <br /> <br />SECTION _' Water resource Information center. The Colorado water conservation board is <br />authorized to expend up to sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) from the Colorado water <br />conservation board construction fund to continue the operation of a consolidated water resources <br />infonnation center. <br />
